South Texas Electric Coop Switches to the SoftSmiths Cloud

Houston, TX. –  October 9, 2014 – SoftSmiths, Inc., a leading energy software-as-a-service company, today announced that South Texas Electric Cooperative (STEC) has selected SoftSmiths cloud services for load forecasting and metered usage data analysis to assist with supply management and load settlement.

Headquartered at the Sam Rayburn Power Plant Complex on the Guadalupe River just outside Nursery, Texas, STEC was formed in 1944 to provide wholesale electric services to member distribution cooperatives.

STEC will migrate off a legacy system to manage load forecasting, customer service history and electricity consumption at the meter level in the SoftSmiths Cloud for the competitive retail arm of one of its members.

Subscribed to by 25% of the ERCOT Retail Electric Providers (REP), ERCOT Forecaster is an easy-to-use forecasting application to streamline the load forecasting process by providing the insight and granularity to manage demand effectively and efficiently. Recognizing it is essential for REPs to maintain accurate consumption records, STEC required easy access and insight into forecast, actual load as well ESIID level usage data to perform reconciliation and verification of the accounts under contract. SoftSmiths’ services deliver exactly that and enable STEC to retrieve ERCOT settlement data for comparison with billing data to identify discrepancies.

STEC took advantage of the SoftSmiths Cloud, which offers a compelling suite of Software-as-a-Service solutions that are delivered over the internet – as a service. Without the need for installing and maintaining software, customers use the internet with user-friendly access to sophisticated services including Load Forecasting and Planning, Trading, Scheduling, ISO submissions and Settlement.
