Six California Utilities Sign up for SoftSmiths GenScheduler

Houston, TX. – November 20, 2013 – SoftSmiths, Inc., a leading energy software solutions and services company, today announced that the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) member participants, Cities of Anaheim, Burbank, Cerritos, Colton, Glendale, and Pasadena, have selected SoftSmiths GenScheduler to enable them and the operator of the Magnolia Power Project (MPP) to schedule, dispatch, settle and report information related to the operation and performance of the 310 megawatt combined cycle plant.

MPP is operated and staffed by Burbank Water & Power personnel on a 24-hour basis. Using SoftSmiths GenScheduler, each of the six cities will schedule their own power output with the MPP Operating Agent for each hour of every day. This effectively makes the one large plant serve as six individual “smaller units,” providing scheduling flexibility and control for each city.

"We completed a thorough analysis of the marketplace for generation scheduling solutions and SoftSmiths GenScheduler was unanimously selected by all 6 participants as the best," said Ira Joffee, Power Production manager, Magnolia Power Plant. "SoftSmiths' strong functionality fit to the participant’s requirements, ease of use, ability to integrate with existing systems as well as their responsiveness were key strengths that led to MPP's decision.”

Part of SoftSmiths TMS suite of applications, SoftSmiths GenScheduler is a web-based Software-as-a-Service application. SoftSmiths also offers functionality to integrate SoftSmiths GenScheduler with either its own or 3rd party Energy Trading and Scheduling systems.

SCPPA, the MPP project owner and headquartered in Glendora, CA, is a joint powers authority consisting of 11 municipal utilities and one irrigation district. SCPPA members deliver electricity to approximately 2 million customers over an area of 7,000 square miles, with a total population of 4.8 million.

"SoftSmiths GenScheduler brings Power Generation Projects with Joint Owners and/or multiple participants, such as MPP, the integrated functionality to manage and track the generation scheduling process in an automated and efficient way", said Larry Stone at SoftSmiths, Inc." In addition, SoftSmiths’ compelling SaaS delivery increases time-to-value with no direct software installation and reduced implementation time while remaining agile and adaptable in the every-changing energy market.”
